OMD Infant RSV Toolkit PS Suite

Introduction

This toolkit was designed to assist clinicians in identifying infants and high-risk children who may be eligible for RSV immunization.

Steps to use the toolkit:

  1. Download and extract the zipped file to a location accessible to your TELUS PSS EMR.
  2. Import searches, custom forms, and stamp to appropriate locations in your TELUS PSS EMR.
  3. Import and modify the reminders to meet your clinical needs. Import the reminder, which will allow access to the toolbar, and modify the reminder to include any users to whom the toolkit should display.
  4. Create a prescription favourite Create a favourite prescription for your infant RSV immunization and name it “rsvv”.

Who Benefits from the Toolkit?

Clinicians will directly benefit from toolkit. The management of patients at the point of care, creation of recalls, and follow-up tasks is simplified.

How is it Used?

  1. The toolbar is presented if the patient:
  • Is Born in 2024 OR Born in the 2024/25 RSV season and has not had an RSV immunization in the last 6 months.

OR

  • Is 0-24 months old with a high-risk condition and has not had an RSV immunization in the last 6 months.

  • Guideline: Produces the guideline from Ministry of Health
  • RSV Vaccine: Enables the quick documentation of an RSV immunization or the refusal of the immunization
  • Inappropriate: Will document RSV inappropriate and will remove the toolbar
  • Search for all eligible Patients: Will search for all patients eligible for RSV immunization

The refused toolbar will present if they have refused RSV in the past and will give you the date of refusal:

  1. Use the Search OMD RSV Patient List to find patients who may be eligible for RSV Immunization.

List of High-Risk Conditions in PROB List, HPH or billing history

  • Congenital Heart Disease
  • Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
  • Chronic Lung Disease
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Immunodeficiency
  • Down Syndrome
  • Trisomy 21
  • Neuromuscular Disease

Step 1: Download

If you have not downloaded the toolkit (zip file) already, download the zip file from the OMD Educates website and extract the files to a folder accessible by your TELUS PSS EMR.

The toolkit contains:

  1. Customized RSV Toolbars (2 Toolbars)
  2. Search to find eligible patients (1 Search)
  3. Reminders used to activate the toolbars (2 Reminders). Modifying these reminders to suit your clinic’s requirements is recommended (i.e., define users who will see the toolbar)
  4. Stamp affiliated with the toolbars

Step 2: Import Searches, Custom Forms and Stamp

Import Searches:

  1. Open your TELUS PSS EMR.
  2. In the EMR, from the Records window, choose Settings>EditSearches.
  1. In the new window that opens, click Edit > Import Searches.
  1. Using the dropdown menu, navigate to the location of the saved folder.
  2. Click the Searches folder to open.
  3. Click the first custom form and press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘A’ to select all forms.
  4. Click Choose.
  5. Once imported, a window will display ‘Successfully Imported’. 
  6. Click ‘Ok’.

Import Custom Forms:

  1. Open your TELUS PSS EMR.
  2. In the EMR, from the Records window, choose Settings > Edit Custom Forms.
  1. In the new window that opens, click File > Import Form(s).
  1. Using the dropdown menu, navigate to the location of the saved folder.
  2. Click the Custom Forms folder to open.
  3. Click the first custom form and press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘A’ to select all forms.
  4. Click Choose.
  5. Once imported, a window will display ‘Successfully Imported’. 
  6. Click ‘Ok’.

Import Stamp:

  1. Open your TELUS PSS EMR.
  2. In the EMR, from the Records window, choose Settings > Edit Stamps.
  3. In the new window that opens, click File > Import Stamp.

Step 3: Import and Modify Reminders

Import Reminders: ***Do not drag and drop

  1. Open your TELUS PSS EMR.
  2. In the EMR, from the Records window, choose Settings > Edit Reminder.
  1. In the new window that opens, click Edit > Import Reminders.
  1. Using the dropdown menu, navigate to the location of the saved folder.
  2. Select the Reminders folder.
  3. Click the first custom form and press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘A’ to select all forms.
  4. Click Choose.
  5. Once imported, a window will display ‘Successfully Imported’. 
  6. Click ‘Ok’.
  7. Modify the reminders to suit your clinic requirements.

Modify Reminder:

Once the tool has been imported into your PSS EMR, you will need to set the “OMD RSV Toolbar” reminder to show custom form “OMD RSV Toolbar.

Additionally, you can add a user’s initials or other criteria so the toolbars will show only when appropriate.

Step 4: Create a Prescription Favourite

Navigate to a fake patient chart.

  1. Add an RSV immunization then double-click the prescription you want to add as a favourite.
  2. In the Treatment Management window, click Add Immunization to Favourites.
  3. Change the shortcut name to “rsvv”. Click OK.
  4. Choose who this favourite is available to:
    • To make the favourite available to all users in your clinic, click Add Favourite to Clinic.
    • To make the favourite available to yourself only, click Add Favourite to My List Only.
